Title: Macintosh VS Windows
Aßyll - September 17, 2008 07:20 PM (GMT)
I got an assignment in English to write a paper of compare And/Or contrast 2 things.
So I chose my favorite thing: computers, and chose something from it: Operating Systems.
And the 2 most differring and opposing things: Windows and Macintosh.
So, what are all the differences or similarities can we think up, and otherwise say Windows is better?

Actually Zac, Macintosh runs fast, well, and it is a lot less complicated than windows.
I would say that I like the complexity of Windows, but I like the built in features of the Mac.
Mac comes with a dictionary program, and with spell check built into the operating system so that most text boxes can utilize it.
Windows can do more things overall, and it comes with paint, Macintosh does not come with an equivalent.

Macs might run fast because Apple works for better integrated hardware, while Microsoft is closer to the willy nilly throwtogether version action of programmers. (Macs are closer to well thought through niftyness) but the complexity is unbeatable. Is there is anything close to reverse engineering possible on a Mac? Can you hack yourself on a Mac? Or any of that fun stuff I can do with Halo? How about any programming in General beyond just writing it in a Macintosh's default text editor?
Either way, Windows is better for people who know what they're doing. Macs are just sorta better if you like it fresh out of the box and no custom configuration or enhancements and you think its good enough as it is.
And don't bring Linux into this. It's complexity AND user-nonfriendlyness just OWNS Windows and Mac put together, its just slightly above my level (it just doesnt have as much for games.. *arm ). And this isn't a poll, *REMOVING* this is a thread. I already clearly stated Windows is better, though Mac does have its few better things.

How dare you! You want me to remove more powers? ANYTHING I post is off limits, you are not allowed to edit or delete any of it. I don't like Linux very much at all, it is too complex, hacking is stupid and wrong in general so that can't count as points towards anything. And Mac has Xcode, which is the program thing like Visual Studio. Mac is plenty customizable, you just can't get quite the customization of Windows because you can't modify every setting the computer has until you crash it and it dies. The reason it runs faster is not just because of the hardware, it is overall the much better of the two as far as how efficient it is. I always look at the newest version, therefore XP has no place in this argument, and it is Vista versus Mac OS X 10.5.5. Now, Vista is a blatant imitation of Macintosh, but they missed the key point, the speed! It runs so slow it is annoying!
Now, poll REAPPEAR! Do not delete it again or else! Also just for accuracy I am including Linux. And because you deleted the poll without my permission, I have now voted for Macintosh instead!
Thank you.

No. This was not a poll. This was a discussion thread on Windows (In general, in fact, but particularly XP) versus Macintosh (In general, since I know little of their end). And By hacking I mean you can freely modify programs and the such through reverse engineering and Windows API: I dont believe Macintosh has something similar. And Macintosh has something to program with? Since when!?!? ITS A DESIGNER OS, NOT A DEVELOPER!
And this is not a poll. I shall not be turned by popular or synthesized opinion.
I shall not even vote in here. I shall maintain my declaration that Windows is generally better than Macintosh.
And linux: Your just not awesome enough to utilize its full potential. It is far better than both, and much more powerful, and way better at hosting and multi user control and more. (It still doesnt have awesome game-ness as windows though). Its also Far more efficient than even Macs. They're just more difficult to figure out.
And this thread is not a poll. It is not. And I am a moderator, and threads by me are mine.

And I am all powerful, and I can ban you if I want, and I like to make... never mind.
Okay, I just want to see what people think, you can talk all you want on the other stuff, I was arguing mainly based on Vista though, and I believe that Macintosh is the most efficient, after all it does have the fastest startup and shutdown time. Safari is the fastest internet browser, and other stuff, but Windows definitely has way more programs, and a gigantic number more free programs than Macintosh.
Linux is good for hacking, and servers, not for programming for Macintosh and Windows, and not for 3D modeling, and most definitely not the best one for anything. It is rather annoying, my dad keeps trying to convince me that we should install Linux on the DV Server! *shock
Aßyll - September 18, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
I'd like to see you ban me. I'd make a new account, that easily!
IP ban? No problem! ipconfig..... Bam.
What, something else? Bah.. if it even exists I can hack my way around it.
Oh, and if you do persist, you just lost your... lets see, .. poster of 15 % of the entire forum?
And I probably wouldn't come back.
And btw: your dad is pretty smart. Just we like the windows OS better, esp for the other stuff we do instead of just host DV. And true, it can't do Designing, but that is only what, 13 % of the computer industry that is monopolized by 'awesome' Macintoshes?
pizza2004 - September 18, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
I'm not trying to drive you away, I just want you to respect me a little more, the poll is for my benefit, and all I care about is the video game business, I don't care about how else they use computers. So, how many video game companies do you think use Linux? Most probably use Windows, and we will too. Although we may have somewhere between four and eight Mac Pros for modeling and rendering and the such. Although Bret would refuse to use the Macintoshes, and we would have his office set up with an awesome setup.
Imagine, a like 100 inch television on the wall in front of the desk, and then some monitors, and some smaller TVs mounted on the wall around the room, with like one computer for each TV/monitor. Wouldn't that be awesome?
Aßyll - September 18, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
Absolutely true. But we will use 1 or 2 linux boxes for our hosting services. Linux is for hosting, Windows is for developing, and lots of stuff, and Macintosh is for designing. END OF STORY.
Mac's have the nice hardware + efficiency + design / modeling/drawing/whatever programs to do nice designer work on.
Windows simply are awesome.
And linux, ultimately, is the best to host servers with.
